You want less wrinkles in your vagina?

It turns out that when you call your insurance company to get approval for vaginal botox injections, it's quite an ordeal.  I was told at Dr. G's office that if I get the botox myself and bring it in that it would be a lot less expensive than having it provided by the doctor's office.  So I had to call my insurance to both find out the approval process for getting the injections and also find out how to acquire some Botox.  First of all, it's kind of awkward to talk to strangers about how you need botox injections in your vagina.  I talked to three people and it seemed that the idea of this was new to all of them.  So first I called the main 800 number for my insurance.  Good news is that they don't require any type of pre-approval for procedures so I can just get it done and send in the claim.  But getting the Botox is more complicated.  The medical department didn't really know what to do, so they transferred me to the Pharmacy department.  The woman I spoke to in the pharmacy department was really quite perplexed and had no answers so she transferred me to the Mail-Order Pharmacy department.  This person told me that the Botox is covered 100% by my medical plan (!) but that I have to pay a $15 copay to my physician.  When I told him that my physician didn't take insurance, and therefore did not take copays, he was also perplexed.  But he said he'd call the doctor's office and get the prescription and set it in motion.  I'm still not sure when the $15 copay comes in, or if it's relevant at all, but I think I'm on my way to getting some Botox sent to me and making an appointment to have it injected into my vagina.

I was on the phone for a long time today.  But for your info, if you get the Botox from Dr. G it costs $565, so it's definitely worth it to try going through your insurance first (I think mine will be free - but it's a little unclear).  And the procedure costs $560 - close to the typical cost of a visit to Dr. G anyway.

Diagnosed with Vaginismus earlier this year, Had have two sets of lidocaine trigger-point injections and now just had my vaginal botox done at an Army Hospital in North Carolina, cost my insurance about $2000. It is incredibly painful (I was even on 4 vicodin) and am still bleeding quite heavily from the injection sites. A post-procedure exam showed little to no pain. I hope these injections will help you! Just think about your long term goals when you are getting it done, it is not a pleasant experience whatsoever.

Thank you for that info. I asked Dr. Goldstein about the pain involved and he said that it is painful to get the injections, but that there isn't much pain after that. Hopefully my experience will not be as painful as yours. Do you feel like the botox has helped you?

Hi There,
I had Botox done by Dr.Stewart, and the initial pain went away after 24 hours. It was not a miracle cure for me, but it did help, and allowed my PT to work more aggressively on the muscles in the pelvic floor. This, in combination with Dr. G's hormone compound have been wonderful for that area. However, I am now having a lot of clitoris pain, and my urethra is constantly inflamed. I want to ask Dr. G if he could inject Botox into this area as well. Has he mentioned anything about this to you by any chance? I'm on the train at the moment to see Dr. Whitmore for the 1st time. I will ask her too.
Thanks!!
Claire

I'm not sure but I don't think that Botox would help with clitoral or urethral pain. Botox is meant to work in muscles, and since those are not muscles I don't think it would make a difference there. You should definitely ask though - I'm no doctor! Good luck with your appointment.

were you able to get the Botox sent directly to you? My doctor told me that it can only be shipped to a medical office. If you did get it shipped to you, who shipped it?

My insurance company has a mail order pharmacy that I ordered the Botox through. I had the choice of either getting it delivered to me or to the doctor. I chose to have it delivered to the doctor, but it would have been no issue to have it delivered to me. Apparently there are also places online that you can buy it from.

thanks for that info! do you mind if I ask what insurance company you have? I have Blue Cross Blue Shield.

I have CIGNA. I can't speak for BCBS, but I used to have it and it seems like they would do the same thing. I recall BCBS being a good insurance company.

Ok, I feel a little superficial for asking this because you all seem to be dealing with medical issues, but I am curious if anybody knows what procedure I should be looking into for a wrinkled vulva? I am a relatively healthy young woman, but the outer part of my vagina say differently.

A little bit off-topic, but funny and relevant to vagina, nonetheless: My Kitty Got Dah Stank

To the anonymous girl who got her botox injections done in NC:
What army hospital did you go to? I live in NC and so far the only place in NC that does the botox for vaginismus is Duke and they charge like $5,000. I am a civilian and no one in my family serves in the military- could I go get this done at the army hospital? Did they put you to sleep for the procedure?
