Recipe for a Perfect Start to Summer

I wrote a very encouraging post on Monday about our progress and how well it's going.  Monday night my vagina started burning.  I went to bed hoping that it was just a burning vagina that would go away over night, but no.  I hardly slept it burned so bad and in the morning I had to face the reality that I most likely had a bladder infection.  I went to the emergency room and I did indeed have a bladder infection.  With the last two bladder infections I've had (the previous one a year and half ago and the most pain I've ever felt in my life), I haven't had the typical symptom of abdominal pain.  My pain is mostly intense vaginal burning.  Now it's probably really my bladder that is burning but to me it feels like my vagina is burning.  So I felt that way again, although this time my pain was around a 9 instead of the 10 that it was last time.

I actually had to miss the last day of school for the students because I was in so much pain I just couldn't imagine going to work.

So I took the antibiotic that the doctor prescribed and then guess what happened?  I bet you've already guessed.  Yes, I felt a yeast infection coming on.  My vagina started to itch yesterday and I knew.  Usually when prescribed an antibiotic I will ask for Diflucan, but I just wasn't thinking.  So I went to the gynecologist today and I do have a mild yeast infection.  Oh, and I also have a little blood in my urine, which they didn't mention at the hospital.

So to sum up, my first week of summer break has been met with a burning and itching vagina and orange pee that burns when it comes out.  I hope to be past all this soon so we can get back to our activities without losing too much progress.

BLAH!!

Ouch! I am so sorry that you've had some setbacks. But as my docs always say about pelvic pain: Two steps forward, one step back. So the fact that you were able to see some progress at all is a sign that you *can* get better =)
I hope the flare goes away soon and you can get back to making progress!

I go to VA Women's Center and I see Elizabeth Compton. She's actually a Physician's Assistant, but she's really great.

Hey there. I've been reading your blog and found it encouraging, but also sad that you too are experiencing the "one step forward, two steps back" malarky.

It seems that over the pond you get far much more help into this than we brits do in the NHS! I had some surgery to remove scar tissue i got from splitting on my posterior fourchette during sex (and I have vestibulodynia associated with it now). A year after the operation I've split again and basically been told I have to live with it until I have kids, and then the hormones in pregnancy might help but no guarantee!! No mention whatsoever of these estrogen creams..

There is very little support in the NHS here for the psychological side of it. it is obviously affecting my relationship with my partner but we've not got access to a therapist.

Anyway i deviate... If you're susceptible to yeast infections when taking antibiotics, applying a probiotic yoghurt into your vagina whilst for a few days, this helps restore the good bacteria which get killed off by the antibiotics and can prevent the yeast infections. It is a messy process, but it definitely does work.

A few months ago I got a terrible UTI after my husband and I had been following a similar penis in the vagina practice routine every day for a while. Since then, I have found that drinking cranberry juice concentrate (no sugar) in water throughout the day really helps prevent UTI's. You may already know about this but if not it might be worth a try. Hope it helps!
